The through line in Allyson Whitmell’s music is her intimate yet powerful voice, piano arrangements, and emphasis on lyric clarity and story-telling. After graduating from the University of Toronto in Piano Performance and Composition in 2023, Allyson kicked-off her singer-songwriter career with her debut single, New Love.
Her songwriting includes elements of Pop, Jazz, and Musical Theatre and is also inspired by her role leading Contemporary Christian music at her local church. When she isn’t writing or in the studio, Allyson is sought after to entertain at events in which she plays and sings covers from Billy Joel to Billie Eilish, and original songs. Allyson is also an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in both Piano and Voice.

Gigs
Allyson’s repertoire spans several decades (Billy Joel to Billie Eilish). This versatility allows her to customize her setlist based on the event’s demographics. Allyson typically accompanies herself on piano, but depending on the needs of the event, she can also be hired as a solo pianist or for vocals only. In all cases, she seamlessly transitions from genre to genre and weaves in some of her originals. She can also write a song specifically for the occasion. Contact Allyson to be the soundtrack of your next event.
Musical Theatre
Allyson has been in over 15 musicals. She has played lead roles such as Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Nina in In The Heights, and Lady MacBeth in Scots on the Rocks. In 2022, she was nominated for a University of Toronto Dougie Award for Lead in a Musical for her performance in 18 Palace Rd. Her musical theatre training has included the Directions to Broadway program at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in New York. Allyson is represented by Maria Ralley at Edna Talent Management Ltd.
While studying Composition at the University of Toronto, Allyson learned from well-known Canadian composers such as Christos Hatzis, Larysa Kuzmenko, Kevin Lau, and Aaron Tsang. Allyson composes for the concert stage and for the screen. Her classical commissions have included a string orchestra piece for the Sudbury Youth Orchestra and a song cycle for the Toronto Arts and Letters Club. Allyson is a member of the Screen Composers Guild of Canada and has scored several short films. Contact Allyson for composition commissions.
